Nika Babayan
was born in 1955 in Yerevan, Armenia.
Graduating in 1977 from the Yerevan State University of Foreign Languages (Bryusov Institute), served for two years in the Soviet Army. In the period of 1979 – 1991 was Executive Secretary of the Armenian Republican Council for Foreign Students Affairs.
In 1989 organized first concerts of foreign students’ music ensembles in Armenia and Russia.
The same and next year two groups of Armenian professional musicians formed by Nika Babayan gave concerts in Syria.
In the period of 1990-1993 Nika was manager of the Armenian TV and Radio State Chamber Choir. During those years the choir toured intensively in Europe and Asia. In 1991 the choir became prize-winner of prestigious Arnhem International Choral Competition (the Netherlands). In 1992 it won the Grand Prix and Golden medal at Takarazuka International Chamber Chorus Competition (Japan).
In 1995 Nika has established the N.A.B. Artists Management Ltd. (private company renamed recently to the N.A.B. Productions Ltd.) and the Cadence Music Centre (non-governmental non-for-profit organization) to represent interests of the leading Armenian musicians internationally.
Since 1995 the N.A.B. and Cadence are the most professional organizations in Armenia dealing with serious music. In 1995 first international music festival was established in Yerevan. Numerous concerts in Armenia and abroad, festivals, competitions, master-classes, courses are in the list of activities of the N.A.B. and the Cadence. Thanks to them many Armenian young artists took part in international music competitions and festivals abroad.
In the period of 1995-2005 Nika Babayan has produced over 60 CDs with recordings of the leading Armenian orchestras, chamber ensembles, instrumentalists and vocalists.
In 1998 Mr. Babayan has established Courses of Arts Management in Armenia. Now the Course is in the process of becoming a department in of the Yerevan universities.
In 2000-2003 Nika Babayan was General Manager of the Armenian Philharmonic Orchestra and Aram Khachaturian Concert Hall.
Since April 2003 Nika is President and General Manager of the Cadence Music Center.
In December 2003 in London he was elected for the 3-year term as member of Board of Directors of the ISPA (International Society for the Performing Arts Foundation).
Since 1996 member of the ISPA and the IAMA (International Artists Managers Association). |
