 Vahan Mirakian
Tenor
Vahan Mirakian was born in Yerevan, the capital of Armenia. After having received training at the State Conservatory of his home town, he had the opportunity to continue vocal training at the famous La Scala Milano. Maestro Barra became his most important tutor during three years he spent in Italy. Vahan Mirakian signed a contract with Moscow's Bolshoj Theatre, where he stayed until his emigration from the USSR. He sang numerous important lyric tenor roles in Russian and Italian opera. Vahan Mirakian followed invitations to important opera-houses at home (Leningrad, Kiev, Odessa, Tiflis, Riga and other cities) and abroad (Budapest, Bucharest, Warsaw, Prague and Belgrade).
Yet he has not remained completely unnoticed in the West: concert-tours took him to the USA, France, Austria, Sweden, Finland and several countries of the Near East. After his emigration in 1981 he sang at several opera-houses in Germany, Austria, Belgium, Italy, Spain, Yugoslavia, Japan, South Africa and Great Britain. Among the most famous houses there were the Hamburgische Staatsoper, Stadtische Buhnen Frankfurt, Teatro dell' Opera Roma, Teatro Lirico National La Zarzuela, Scottish National Opera and Wiener Staatsoper. He also made a large number of concert appearances as well as radio and television recordings.
Today Vahan Mirakian is resident in Vienna, and has set the focus of his activities on the education of young singers in seminars, individual training and masterclasses.
